Warm Bedtime Story Rooms

Children's bedrooms for Gothenburg apartments

A letter from the studio

Written from Kungsportsavenyen, not as a company brochure

Göteborg, 12 March 2026

Dear reader,

If you found warmbedtimestory.mom while searching for a children's bedroom that can survive Gothenburg winters, you are reading the page we wished existed when we still measured other people's flats as freelancers.

How this practice began

Elin Marklund grew up under a Haga attic slope where a standard wardrobe never stood upright. Tomas Bergström spent years fitting wardrobes for Linné families whose stair turns rejected anything sold as “family size.” We met while helping a friend place a cot on Övre Husargatan and kept arguing—kindly—about radiator clearance until it became a studio.

What we refuse to ignore

Brochure daylight is not west-coast daylight. Paint that looks soft in a southern catalogue can read cold after three o'clock here. We test finishes under warm bulbs and under the grey that arrives through courtyard windows. Children need rooms that feel gentle when the sun has already left the avenue.

The work week on Avenyn

Our meeting table faces the plane trees. Sample boards stay out: timber stains, wool, child-safe paints. Tea is poured; shoes stay in the hall. We keep the roster small so every brief is walked in person rather than handed through layers of intermediaries.

Who signs the drawings

Elin steers colour, textiles, and sleep-friendly layouts. Tomas draws joinery, checks wall anchors, and argues with elevator dimensions. Neither of us pretends a children's room is a miniature adult lounge—storage height, story-lamp reach, and morning scramble all count.

An invitation

If your flat has quirks—sloped ceilings, thin walls, a landlord who dislikes drilling—write to us. Constraints are the interesting part. We would rather solve a stubborn niche than decorate a perfect empty cube.

With care from the avenue,
